Staying Consistent with Social Media and Marketing During Summer
Jun 07, 2024Summer is a season many look forward to: longer days, warm weather, vacations, and a chance to recharge. However, as busy working moms managing our own accounts, we often prioritize our families and fun over our social media and marketing efforts. While the temptation to take a break from work, including social media and marketing, is strong, staying consistent during the summer months can significantly benefit your business in the fall.
Why Consistency on Social Media Matters
Maintaining Engagement:
Consistency keeps your audience engaged. Regular posts remind your followers that you're active and available. While conversations don’t always need to convert to sales, it's important to show your audience that your doors are open and that you don't shut down for 12+ weeks a year. An abrupt halt in social media activity can lead to decreased engagement, causing followers to forget about you or lose interest.
Algorithm Favoritism:
Social media algorithms favor active accounts. This doesn’t mean posting every day, but establishing a schedule or pre-scheduling your content is beneficial. Even two posts per week can help keep you in people’s feeds.
Building Trust:
Consistency builds trust with your audience. They rely on your content for information, entertainment, or inspiration. When they see you continue to show up, they trust you. Even if they don’t interact with you, they don’t want to see that your last post was over three months ago. They'll find another business that has been consistent (trust me!).
Competitor Advantage:
Summer is a time when many businesses might slow down. We see this as an opportunity. By maintaining your efforts, you can gain an edge over competitors who might be taking a break. This is a chance to attract new followers and customers who notice your continued presence.
Tips for Staying Consistent
Hire Support:
One of the best things you can do for your business is to hire help. Many small business owners may not have a large budget for this, but you’d be pleasantly surprised at some low-cost options. Even finding someone to do two posts per week (carousel posts) with captions can maintain consistency and keep you in front of your current and future customers.
Hiring support during the summer months brings a fresh perspective to your blogs, social media, articles, emails, etc. A new set of eyes on your accounts can attract new audiences too. If you need support, reach out to our team at [email protected]. We have a special promo for June/July/August 2024 that could be perfect for maintaining consistent posting.
Time Management:
We’re big fans of time blocking (you can read more about time blocking and productivity hacks here) because it works. When you sit down and create content, and pre-schedule it, you’d be surprised at how much you can get done. However, you must avoid distractions—no laundry, no cooking, no cleaning—just buckle down and get it done. Every second week in our Marketing Lounge, we have a ‘GSD’ session, giving our members 45 minutes to put their heads down and work.
Calendar Check-ins & Reminders
We love using Google Calendar to set reminders and notes for our team and clients. Even if we don’t have a meeting, we still put in our calendar, “10:10 am: Be done with the blog for ourselves.” I recommend trying this for your own business:
- Set aside 1 hour to film/capture content. Put this in your calendar and inform your family/friends that you need that time. Find a space with good lighting, get dressed, and film. Even faceless content works well on social media right now!
- Set aside 2 hours of dedicated time to edit the content. Now you’re at a total of 3 hours. Use Canva to upload all the images, videos, etc., that you’ve taken.
- Set aside 2 hours to pre-schedule your content. This means opening up Facebook Meta (keep it easy!) and pre-scheduling your content. Upload it, create the captions, and don’t overthink it. ChatGPT is a great tool for this, but be careful not to copy and paste—it looks inauthentic.
Now you’ve spent 5 hours creating 8+ weeks of content. We are hosting a workshop on June 13 at 12 pm MTN to help you time block 2 hours. Join the workshop here.
By preparing and scheduling content in advance, you can maintain a steady flow of posts while enjoying your summer break, ensuring your engagement and visibility remain high.
However, if you absolutely need a pause from social media (we get it), take it. Sometimes we have to listen to what our hearts and souls need more than ‘what has to happen’. We don’t know what exactly is going on with your life – so honour that as a business owner.
Ultimately, the effort you put into staying consistent during the summer will pay off in the long run, helping you maintain a strong and engaged audience. So, take the time to plan now and enjoy a worry-free summer while keeping your social media presence alive and thriving.
